Chiefs, people of Dzemeni unhappy about siting of filling station in market                                  

The chiefs and people of Dzemeni in the South Dayi district of the Volta Region have appealed to government to urgently intervene to help prevent a looming fire explosion at the market.

According to them, all efforts to compel a businessman who has established a filling station in the market to relocate have proved futile. 

They alleged that some government officials in the district have aided the owner of the filling station to acquire a licence to operate even though it poses danger to lives and property at the market. 

The Dzemeni market is patronised by traders from all over the country. It is noted for fish business as a result of it nearness to the Volta lake. 

Checks at the market revealed the filling station operates with surface fuel tanks and manual dispensers. 

Speaking to the media at Dzemeni, the Chief of the area, Togbe Castro Mawufeame Mediale said the community was surprised when the owner of the filling station disclosed that the Environmental Petroleum Agency (EPA) and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) have issued him license to operate in the market. 

He added that for the past five years of the establishment of the filling station in the market, the community has lived in fear each day especially with the current trend of explosion at fuel stations in Accra and some parts of the country.
