GNAT attacks GES over proposed welfare policy before deductions

General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT, David Ofori Acheampong has taken a swipe at the Ghana Education Service, GES for its failure to create awareness on a proposed welfare policy before starting deductions. 

Mr. Ofori Acheampong in an interview with Ibrahim Kwarteng was unhappy that GES did not keep its promise of going round the country to educate members even though the policy is optional. 

He however said the policy should be structured in a way that will be beneficial to all members.

The Concerned Teachers Association of Ghana also said they were not consulted before GES started the deduction from their salaries.  

In a response to the claims, the GES said there were engagements with leaders of the teacher Unions for onward communication to members. 

Public Relations Officer of the Service, Cassandra Twum Ampofo said the Welfare Policy is not compulsory, adding that there will be a refund for any teacher who did not want to be part of the policy.
