Ministry of Fisheries Bans Import Of Ornamental Fishes, Tilapia Species From July 1

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has banned the importation of all ornamental fishes and tilapia species whether live or dead. 

The ban takes effect from July 1 to December 31, 2018.

The ban follows an emerging virus known as 'Tilapia Lake Virus'. There have been cases reported across Africa, Asia and South America that the virus is a danger to the global tilapia industry. 

In a statement, the Ministry is advising consumers and stakeholders to report any arising or related issue to the Ministry for action.
