Ministry of Fisheries bans import of ornamental fishes and tilapia species from  July 1 to December 31st

The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has banned the importation of all ornamental fishes and tilapia species whether live or dead. The ban takes effect from July1, to December 31 this year.

The ban follows an emerging virus known as Tilapia Lake Virus. There have been cases reported across Africa, Asia and South America that the virus is a danger to the global tilapia industry. 

In a statement, the Ministry is advising Consumers and Stakeholders to report any arising or related issue to the Ministry for action.
