The media in China and Africa have been urged to work together to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in news reporting, content creation, establishment of new TV and Radio networks. They should leverage each others strength and voices on major regional issues to tell good Chinese and African stories to the rest of the World. They must endeavour to change the negative Western narrative about China and Africa and consolidate friendly public opinions and provide strong media support for China-African cooperation to help attain common prosperity and development. The Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party and Minister in charge of National Radio and Television Administration of China Nie Chenxi said this at the opening of the fourth Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation in Beijing, China. He said China-Africa Media Cooperation has become an important platform for media administrative authorities and media organisations to carry out policy dialogues and depeen pragmatic engagements since its establishment in 2012. According to Mr. Nie Chenxi the China-Africa forum has played a positive role in promoting people to people exchanges and enhancing the traditional friendship between China and African countries. He noted that the cooperation philosophy of sincerity, real results, friendship, good faith and the principle of consultation, contribution and shared benefits, will continue to be their guiding principles. Mr Chenxi underscored the need for an in-depth exchanges focusing on three topics; CHINA-AFRICA Media policy exchange, discourse right of China-Africa media and China-Africa media digitization and content industry development. The Zambian Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Dora Siliya in an address commended the Chinese Government for its cobtribution towards the development of most African countries. She lauded China for supporting the TV and Radio digitization programme on the continent and called for the promotion of the existing cooperation to enhance Media development in Africa. A Counsellor at the Department of African Affairs at the Ministry of foreign affairs of China, Li Chang said the media is the bridge between the people and the government and they must be supported to do their work. The Chief Executive of the African Union of Broadcasting, George NDJAKA said a number of public TV and Radio channels across the continent are challenged with production issues and wondered how media channels can be increased through proper funding to ensure the production of high quality audio -visual contents. He noted that a number of state owned stations are struggling to survive because of lack of funding for Morden equipment and technology. The 4th forum on China-Africa media cooperation was organised to enhance communications and dialogue among media personalities from China and Africa, promote exchanges in areas such as information dissemination, programme development, technology transfer, share development experience and address media sector challenges jointly. Cooperation agreements will be signed between the two sides and declaration on further deepening media cooperation in the new era will be adopted. Programmes and technology equipment exhibition will also be held. About 400 participants from 40 African countries and over 150 Chinese representatives as well as leading media companies such as StarTimes Group and Huaxia film distribution company.
