Google Doodle honors Ghana's Efua Theodora Sutherland

Google Doodle has honoured Ghana's Efua Theodora Sutherland.

Famous writer and teacher Efua Theodora Sutherland performed a major role in both, the fabrication and exploration of significant plays across Ghana.

Sutherland was known as Aunty Efua, she was also one of Africa's earliest female writer accredited by local and internationally for promiscuous theatre works, comprising Foriwa (1962), Edufa (1967), and The Marriage of Anansewa (1975).

She was credenced with bringing literary and theatrical campaign in Ghana between the 1950's and 1990's via her own works and helped evolve the country’s educational curriculum for children.

At a time when women performed a significant role in governance, Sutherland is also remembered for her comprehensive work on the UN Conference on the announcement of the Rights of the Child.

Because of Sutherland’s devotement to children’s rights and cultural activism, thousands of students in Ghana have accessibility to quality education and theatre performance.

She was born in Cape Coast, Gold Coast (now Ghana). Efua studied teaching at St Monica's Training College in Mampong and then she went to England to continue her education at Homerton College

She was one of the first African women to study at Cambridge University and at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.
