Privileges Committee Starts Hearing On Alleged Misconduct By Assin Central MP

The Privileges Committee of Parliament has held a sitting on the case of alleged misconduct by Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin central, Kenedy Agyapong.

The MP for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak petitioned the Speaker on the 6th of this month accusing Mr. Agyapong of pronouncements on air which brought the name of Parliament into disrepute. 

The first Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, pursuant to this, forwarded the matter to the Privileges Committee for further action. 

When the committee met, Mr. Osei Owusu, who also doubles as chairman of the Privileges Committee said the meeting was to establish the merits of the allegation, the sitting was therefore held in camera. 

After the over one hour of closed door sitting, the sole witness for the day, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarack said he was optimistic his case was well founded. 

GBC’s Radio Ghana later caught up with the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Andrew Mercer who was tight lipped about what transpire said the committee's decision will be soon made clear.
