August to be closed season for fishing

August this year will be a closed season for artisanal, semi-industrial and industrial vessels. 

This is upon recommendation from the Scientific Technical Committee, which has revealed that August is the period when fish spawn and not in November as previously observed.

A Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Training, Ato Cudjoe announced this at a programme soliciting the support of the media in addressing problems in the fishery sector.

He said all fisheries communities have agreed, with the exception of Greater Accra.
