Pregnant woman at Nsawam prison released under Justice For All Programme

An eight-month old pregnant woman in pre-detention at the Nsawam Prison in the Eastern Region, has been released on Bail under the Justice For All Programme.

The 21-year Old was charged with conspiracy to murder her physically challenged son. 

Twenty one year old  Helen Bempong was arrested and remanded in February 2018. 

She was accused of conspiring with her husband Richard Arhenful who is still at large to kill their two -year old physically challenged child.

Details on her docket states that the child who often cried, was severely beaten by her father resulting in the child's death.

Helen says her husband warned her not to say a word to anyone including the Police.

However Helen reported the incident to her family days later. 

Her uncle then reported the issue to  the Police.

Helen Bempong who is eight months pregnant is due to deliver in August 2018.

She was granted bail at ten thousand cedis.

Meanwhile a 42-year old father and his 22 year old son who were charged with stealing a bag full of pieces of cloths, a mobile phone and pan, were also granted bail.

A 67-year old mentally challenged ex-police officer has  also been  released after serving nearly ten -years in pre-detention.

Anthony Darko,  who was discharged from the Police Service due to his mental condition was detained after he inflicted a cut on the shoulder of a boy who usually made fan of him leading to his death.
