The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority GRA, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, says providing assistance to reform and modernisation of customs clearance procedures as well as exchanging of information about goods at the port, there the need to form Joint Customs Consultative Committee, JCCC in the maritime sector. 

This according to him will harmonise the activities of various stakeholders by encouraging the rationalisation of agencies to promote the use of a risk management approach for selection OF physical examination and giving training on trade facilitation to maximised tax at the collection points in the port. 

Mr. Nti said this when he inaugurated the Tema Joint Customs Consultative Committee and sub-committee at Tema to build a relationship and communication gap between the customs division and other stakeholders at the various port. 

The JCCC is a forum for stakeholders to exchange information and take decisions that will influence the direction of future business and customs operations with special regard to effective and efficient clearance processes at the port. 

It is to ensure that GRA undertakes full consultation on customs operational matters and to review with stakeholders the impact of any proposed changes. 

It’s also to ensure trade issues are taken into account in the formulation of business process solutions, implementation plans and training for relevant to GRA’s trading community. 

Mr. Nti who inaugurated the JCCC, underscored the need for stronger collaboration among the stakeholder will help enhance facilitation and speedy clearance of goods and services at the port. 

He charged the members of the committee to bring their expertise to bear on the committee’s activities.

The Commissioner of Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Isaac Crentsil said the JCCC has come at the time when the customs division is undergoing a major reform under the mobilisation period to improve on clearance such as the paperless transaction.

Tema Sector Commander of the Tema Customs Division, Dr. Okoh Appiah assured the stakeholders of the customs division’s resolve to effectively collaboration them  since the they  also have influence on the activities at the port.
