Parliament calls for continuous dialogue on US-Ghana visa restriction

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, Frank Annoh-Dompreh says it is unfortunate that the United States has to issue a statement threatening to implement visa restrictions on Ghana, if it is unable to comply with international obligations regarding the issuance of travel documents to Ghanaians on deportation orders in the US. 

He said there have been instances in the past where Ghanaians have been deported without issues, therefore it is a bad directive. 

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, “Behind the News”, Mr Annoh-Dompreh said the Parliamentary Select Committee is holding series of meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway to iron out the issues. 

He said he is confident that there will be an amicable solution to the impasse and therefore cautioned against the politicisation of the issue which might further muddy the waters.

A member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Dr Clement Apaak called on government to dialogue with the US to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
