Food and Drugs Authority cautions public against fake dewormer and malaria drugs on the market

The Food and Drugs Authority FDA, has warned against counterfeit dewormer and malaria drugs on the market. FDA says the malaria drug, Coartem 20/120 and Zentel tablets a dewormer, were detected in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions during their surveillance in those areas. 

A statement by the Chief Executive Officer of FDA, Mrs. Delese A. A. Darko, says the pack of the Zentel tablets have inscriptions in Arabic. FDA has directed its Pharmaco vigilance Department to detain the products immediately they find them anywhere in the country.  

The Food Drugs Authority (FDA) says it is conducting investigations into the fake Zental and Coatem drugs seized during its market surveillance.  According to the Board, the Coatem drug has the original manufacturing name but the batch numbers are fake.

Communications Specialist at the FDA, James Lartey, told Felix Cofie that the FDA will continue to clear fake drugs from the market.  He touched on how Ghanaians can identify the  fake drugs.Mr. Lartey said the FDA is getting tough on those who sell drugs on vehicles urging the public not to  patronize such drugs.
