Flooding attributed to lack of zoning Accra

A Development Planner,  Amon Kotei has attributed flooding in the city to the loss of control by authorities in zoning Accra. 

He did not rule out human activities saying building on water ways must be checked. 

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, “Behind The News,” Mr Kotei said Accra is a low lying area and the assembly and agencies in charge must have the political will to deal with the situation once and for all. 

Speaking to the issue, the Director of Communication at NADMO, George Ayisi called for re-engineering of drains. 

He said the drainage system in the country has structural defects which must be worked on. 

Mr Ayisi said with Act 927 which empowers NADMO to pull down structures in water ways, proactive measures will be put in place to check the perennial floods.
