Obengfo Trial: Magistrate orders journalists' phones seized in court

A District Court magistrate hearing the committal proceedings of embattled Chief Executive Officer of the Obengfo Hospital, has ordered the seizure of Mobile Phones of Journalists attending her court to report on the case.

The Magistrate Efua Sackey hearing the case of Dr Dominic Obeng Andoh ordered the Court Warrant Officer to seize the phones of all journalists in her court before proceedings.

She explained that her action is to prevent Journalists from recording proceedings.

Since the commencement of the Obengfo case, Magistrate Sackey has consistently had issues with and openly expressed her dislike for the presence of journalists in her court.

At the last court sitting, she ordered journalists to report to the Registrar of the court to seek clearance before accessing her court.

Four Court correspondents had their phones detained by the court for nearly an hour. 

Journalists affected by the decision of Magistrate criticised her decision and subsequent orders are completely alien to their experiences in courts particularly, the higher courts of Judicature such as the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
