Air Force takes over guard duty at the presidency

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Monday morning reviewed the ceremonial change of the guard at the Jubilee House in Accra. 

The ceremonial parade is an old tradition inherited from the British during the period of colonialism. 

The ceremony, a quarterly event, is similar to that of the Buckingham Palace. 

President Akufo-Addo is witnessing the ceremony for the first time since the Name of the Presidency was renamed the Jubilee House. 

The significance of the Guard changing is to ensure alertness and readiness of the men in uniform at all times. 

It is also to assess the strength of the Soldiers for duty among others.

The Air force takes over guard duties from the Navy for the next three months.

The Ghana Air force was in charge of Guard duties until the ceremony today. 

The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare, ministers, service chiefs and top government functionaries, as well as school children from Mega Montessori, Osu Presbyterian Senior High School, Mizpa International JHS, Elliot International School and Salem SHS.
