Builsa South Assembly Holds its Final Public Hearing on Development Plan

The Builsa South District Assembly in the Upper East Region has organized its final public hearing on the 2018 - 2021 Medium Term Development Plan. 

Each of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, MMDAs, in the country is expected to develop their own 2018 - 2021 Medium Term Development Plan with broader consultations in their respective operational areas to ensure that inputs and aspirations from all stakeholders including the marginalized groups such as Persons with Disabilities and women groups are captured in the Plan. 

The Medium Term Development Plan which is to serve as a blueprint of development for each of the MMDAs is also expected to be validated by the public and the General Assemblies of the MMDAs before it is submitted to the National Planning Commission to validate to see whether the plans fall in line with the National Development Plans. 

Speaking at the Public hearing of the Builsa South District Medium Term Development Plan, the District Chief Executive, Daniel Kwame Gariba, commended the stakeholders made up of Assembly Members, Head of Departments, Traditional and Religious Leaders among others for attending the programme and contributing their inputs to enrich the Plan. 

He explained that the exercise was crucial because the Medium Term Development Plan did not only serve as a blue print that would guide the development process of the Assembly but will be used to attract development partners to support the Assembly in its development efforts. 

Mr. Gariba called on the stakeholders to support the Assembly educate community members particularly traders to pay their taxes to enable the Assembly implement the aspirations of the communities captured in the plan. 

He said with the dwindling support from development partners coupled with the inadequate District Assembly Common Fund from the central government, it will be very difficult to implement projects and programmes if the communities refused to meet their tax obligations. 

Most of the issues raised and deliberated upon by the stakeholders bordered on the improvement of education, health, agriculture, the local economy, the road sector, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
