Muslims in Bolga marks the end of the Ramadan

Hundreds of Muslims in the Bolgatanga Municipality and its surrounding communities converged on the NAFAC grounds to offer prayers to Allah for guiding them through the Ramadan fast. 

They were led by the Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yussif Adam, to mark the end of the Ramadan. 

Alhaji Yussif Adam called for the deepening of religious tolerance in the country. 

He said human beings were all created from Adam so their religious differences should not create conflict among them. 

Ramadan happens every year, and followers believe it’s the time of year when the Muslim holy book, the Koran, was first revealed to the Prophet Mohammed. 

Ramadan is always a time where Muslims attain nearness and closeness to God so that He becomes a reality in their lives as they bear the rigours of fasting for the sake of following a Divine commandment. 

Addressing the Muslims, the Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari, observed that the Ramadan enabled the Muslims to instil in themselves God's consciousness and to promote love among the Muslim community. 

He said this would ultimately enhance a harmonious environment towards sustainable peace and development in the entire country. The regional minister entreated Muslims to be modest and celebrate the occasion within the confines of law.  

He further urged Muslims to live above reproach so as to erase the erroneous misconception that Muslims are violent and were hiding under the carpet to perpetuate crime all in the name of Jihad.  

The Regional Minister also appealed to all Muslim sects to appreciate the health benefits that come along with the successful end of the fasting season.  

He urged them to sustain the faith throughout the year and voluntarily sacrifice their wealth to benefit the poor and the destitute in society. 

Mr. Bukari said in a plural society where some people mistaken the principles of Islam and resort to extremism, Ramadan reminds them of the need for true believers to rather cultivate the virtues of tolerance and inclusion. 

He appealed to the leadership of the Muslim communities in the region to challenge the youth in the country to reject tendencies that divide Muslims and other people. 

He revealed that in one and half years in office, the NPP government have been able to recruit 3 thousand Arabic teachers to beef up the staff strength of Arabic teachers in the country. 

Mr. Bukari said the government through the ministry of Inner-City and Zongo Development, will train Muslim youth in Vocational skills and provide educational infrastructure and scholarships. 

He therefore charged the people in the region particularly farmers to embrace President Nana Addo’s agricultural Revolutionary program dubbed “Planting for Food and Jobs”.
