Cosmetic Surgery - personal decision not medical requirement

The Director of the National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Centre at the Korley – Bu teaching hospital Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah has called on Ghanaians to search for safe medical centers when undertaking a cosmetic surgery.

Speaking on GBC’s Uniiq FM Break Fast Drive, Dr. Opoku said getting oneself a proper medical center is necessary because it helps to avoid future complications of surgery.

Cosmetic surgery is a unique discipline of medicine focused on enhancing appearance through surgical and medical techniques. 

He explain that cosmetic surgery is a personal choice of individuals who want to enhance their physical appearance in public. 

According to Dr. Opoku, his outfit at the Korley – Bu Teaching hospital see a lot of women coming for this kind of surgery due to societal demands and preferences of women.

This is because women after child delivery get some part of their bodies stretched out therefore some of these women consider it necessary to undergo cosmetic surgery to get their bodies reshaped he added. 

Dr. Opoku advised the public to reduce the intake of junk foods even with the presence of technology to treat the fats they absorbed. Cosmetic surgery only help to reshape the body but do not control disease such as cholesterol, blood pressure or high sugar level in the body he emphasized. 

Cosmetic surgery can be performed on all areas of the head, neck and body.
