Coalition Of NGOs In Health Welcomes Govt Decision To Operationalise UGMC

The Coalition of NGO's in Health has welcomed government decision to operationalise the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) because it is long overdue. 

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, Chairman of the Coalition, Dr. Gabriel Bennarkum, said government should go ahead with the operation of the facility as steps are taken to add additional facilities and also resolve the board room issues.

A statement released today announced that a joint government and University of Ghana board will manage the new University of Ghana Medical Centre, UGMC.

The Board to be chaired by Dr. Anarfi Asamoah-Baah is to liaise with the Turnkey Contractor, to test run the equipment and operationalise the facility with immediate effect. 

A statement signed by a Deputy Minister of Information, Curtis Perry Okudzeto said as a first step, the interim Board between now and July, 2018 will complete the staffing process and ensure the provision of final logistics required for a smooth take-off. 

It said government as chief stakeholder, shares in the public sentiment to operationalise the facility as soon as possible but it is however important to note that, the above processes are completed to provide the best care for patients who will be patronising the facility. 

The statement added that government has additionally secured funds to construct the phase two of the project which will enable it to function optimally.
