UN repatriates Ghana Police peacekeepers accused of sexual misconduct

46 members of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingent on Peacekeeping operation in Bentiu, South Sudan have been repatriated to Ghana.

According to a statement from the Police, they arrived on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

The statement on Thursday, signed by C/INSPR Richmond Mensah for Director–General/Public Affairs, said the 46 Police Officers were repatriated on administrative grounds as per the United Nations (UN) rules and regulations and will resume full normal police operations as we await the full investigative report from the United Nations for further action.

The statement also said it would be recalled that on Friday, February 25, 2018 the Police Public Affairs Directorate issued a press release that some members of the Ghana Police FPU on Mission at South Sudan were alleged to have engaged in sexual exploitation and abuse.

The 46 personnel of the Formed Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service were on February 22 recalled from Wau and confined to a base in Juba after a preliminary investigation into allegations of sexual exploitation.
