Jury empanel to commence trial on the murder of GSTS student

 A Sekondi High Court has empanel a seven-member jury to commence the trial on the murder of Lawrence Baidoo a 17 year old final year student of Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi in the Western Region.

The final year student was allegedly shot by Police Constable Adjei Shaibu in December last year.

The case which was initially commenced at a Takoradi Magistrate court was referred to the Attorney General’s Department for advice which then charged the accused with murder resulting in the transfer of the case to the Sekondi High court for trial. 

The High court after some adjournments is about start hearing despite the accused pleading not guilty to two counts of causing harm and murder.

State Attorney Patience Klinogo told the court that the prosecution would from June 11, 2018 lead evidence to prove that Constable Shaibu shot and killed Lawrence Baidoo and injured another student of GSTS Kobina Dopkor in the process.

Constable Adjei Shaibu, stationed at the Inchaban Police Station, allegedly, shot Lawrence Joe Baidoo at about 8:30 pm on Friday, December 22, 2017.

The deceased student and his four friends were on their way to a street jam at Shama Junction when the incident happened.

Constable Shaibu who was riding a motorbike on the said date allegedly mistook the group for thieves and purportedly opened fire on them killing Baidoo in the process.

Lawrence died shortly after being rushed to the St. Benedict Hospital at Inchaban while the second victim who also suffered some bullets injury was transferred to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for the bullets to be removed.

The mortal remains of the deceased; Lawrence Baidoo has since been laid to rest.

Meanwhile, the counsel for the accused, Mr. Edmund Acquaah Hene said that the prosecution must have enough evidence to prove its case.
