Ghana joins world to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day

Community Connect Network, a non-governmental organization in collaboration with Global Neighbour Healthcare Organization, has organized a day’s workshop on menstrual hygiene for 260 pupils from 12 selected basic schools including school for the deaf in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The programme on the theme: “Menstruation is no Shame,” was aimed at educating girls, boys and other stakeholders about menstrual hygiene management to promote girls education in the country. 

The Executive Director of Community Connect Network, Nana Adwoa Agyeman Afrifa, advised girls to be conscious of their sexuality for good health and improved performance in school. 

She further advised them to take good care of their bodies, especially during menstruation. 

Madam Afrifa also urged them to report any abnormal condition that they may experience during menstruation to their teachers, parents or doctors for the needed help. 

She gave the assurance that, her outfit will continue to mobilize requisite resources and expertise to support girl-child education in the country, and appealed for cooperation.    

The New Juaben Municipal Director of Education, Bartholomew Kwame Ofori, lauded the organization for its initiative and urged them to continue to work with the GES in providing quality education to every citizen in the country. 

He said the Government or the GES cannot do it all alone, hence the need for organisations to link up with government and the GES to produce the best of professionals and leaders the nation requires. 

He noted that it is not acceptable for the education of girls to be adversely affected because of a natural cycle such as menstruation. 

The pupils were presented with sanitary pads and posters on feminine hygiene.
