The Director of Technical examination unit of Ghana Education Service, Seth Appau says a panacea to cure the growing unemployment situation in the country is to prioritize skills based training in education. 

He noted that over the decades, the over reliance on theories based approach in our education sector has proved woeful in bridging the unemployment gap. 

According to Mr. Appau, the synergy between education and industry ought to be synchronized to better the lot of the youth. He said this at graduation of the 4th cohort of GH Media School in Accra. 

The GH Media School was established in 2013 with a population of 13 students. 

It currently boasts of 950 students. 

It was  accredited by the Ghana Education Service and is supervised by its Technical Examinations Unit. 

Mr. Seth Appau further noted that skills based training and entrepreneurial skills are key elements in in swinging the youth unemployment pendulum to achieve positive results.

To him, today’s youth must be equipped with skills with less emphasis on theory which has been a bane to the country’s human resource development to with respect to job creation. 

The Rector of GH Media School, Leslie Addo Listowell said being the fastest growing media school in the country, they are dedicated to equipping their products with the necessary tools in journalism, communication, marketing, ICT among others to create diversity in the skills students acquire. 

He said this is evidenced in the feedback received from industry and some awards won.

Radio Ghana's Abraham Donkor caught up with the overall best student, Victoria Eze expressed delight about the recognition. 

She advised prospective students and the youth in general to make hard work their hallmark.

In all, 71 students graduated with diplomas and certificates in Journalism, Integrated Marketing Communication and TV and Film Production.
