The Northern Regional House of Chiefs says it will set up a committee to reconcile feuding factions in the Nanung chieftaincy conflict to ensure sustainable peace after the Supreme court ruled that Naa Andani Dasana is the legitimate Overlord of Bimbilla. The decision by the Supreme court reaffirmed the ruling by the Northern Regional and National house of chiefs in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, the Buipewura who is also the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Regional House of Chiefs said both sides must accept the supreme court ruling in the interest of peace. He entreated all supporters to be civil and maintain an atmosphere of tolerance and respect. "We appeal to both parties to remain peaceful and respectful. We entreat all supporters to keep activities and exchanges civil to maintain an atmosphere of tolerance and respect and to avoid the use of tribal rhetoric," he emphasized. The Regional House of Chiefs expressed its commitment to the people of Nanung, adding that they will take the necessary steps to ensure sustainable peace. Prior to the ruling on Wednesday, the streets of Bimbilla were deserted and most residents stayed indoors.
