Navrongo farmers want dams desilted Farmers in Navrongo in the Upper East Region have prepared their land for planting waiting for the rains to begin. An Agriculturalist, Emmanuel Ayarigia who spoke to Radio Ghana, said even though there are dams in the Region, they are all choked and must be desilted. He told GBC’s George Ankrah that farmers have not yet received subsidised fertilizer. Meanwhile, reports say government is realigning the seed production system to enable farmers get enough seeds for the season and pay back after harvesting. A Senior Research Scientist at the Tolon Irrigation Authority, Dr. Roger Kanton said government needs to put in place a mechanism to enable beneficiaries to pay back the subsidised seeds and fertilizer. Dr. Kanton asked government to do all it can to seal every leakage in the supply and smuggling of subsidised fertilizer before and after the farming season. GBCONLINE ---DECRYPTED---
