USE SOLAR ENERGY TO REDUCE PRESSURE ON NATIONAL GRID - AMEWU


The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources John Peter Amewu has directed engineers working on the new Lands Commission building in Kumasi to re-engineer the structure to include solar power. After touring the facility which is about 98 percent complete, Mr. Amewu said the number of offices and air conditioners that will be required will be a drain on the taxpayer if it runs solely on the national grid. 

The new Lands Commission building is being supported by the World Bank as part of the land reforms programme. The new facility will house all land sector agencies including the Land and Spatial Authority, Public and Vested Lands, Administrator of Stool Lands, Land Valuation Division, Survey and Mapping Division and Land Registration Division. The 15 million-dollar facility is expected to be commissioned in June this year. 

Mr. Amewu said government intends to bring sanity in the acquisition and registration of land. He said the National headquarters of the Lands Commission in Accra will also have new infrastructure soon. He added that the directive to re-engineer the building to allow the generation and use of solar as part of government’s deliberate effort to encourage more people to adopt solar technology as a way of reducing pressure on the national grid.
