Catholic University needs Presidential Charter-Vice Chancellor

Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG), Professor Daniels Kwabena Obeng-Ofori, says the university needs to be granted a Presidential Charter, in order to improve upon its facilities.

Speaking at the launch of an endowment fund for the university in Accra, Prof Obeng-Ofori said ten years after the school was inaugurated in 2003, the student population has grown from 50 to two thousand. 

He said there is the need for the university to ensure excellence by building stake-holder confidence, creating a conducive academic atmosphere and increasing academic programmes.

The Vice Chancellor said the university needs funds to do this, adding that, tuition fees from students alone cannot run the university. Prof Obeng-Ofori explained that the university has a lot to offer, but lacks the resources to do so. 

Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference and the Governing Council of the Catholic University College are spearheading the establishment of an Endowment Fund to enable the University to secure a Presidential Charter.

They aim to raise 200 million Ghana cedis towards the establishment of the Fund in the next two years.
