Courts acquits six persons in Kwabenya jailbreak case

Six accused persons involved in the Dome Kwabenya jailbreak incident have been acquitted and discharged in by an Accra circuit court. 

This is after the defence counsel for accused persons submitted an application of no case.

The court discharged the six accused persons, George Yeboah, Edward Lartey, George Sarbah, Elvis Owusu, George Asante and Theophilus Bandah after there was no evidence established against them.

Presiding judge Aboagye Tanoh said prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against George Sarbah which led to his discharge. The Presiding judge stated that prosecution failed to lead sufficient evidence for the six accused persons to still be in police custody. 

He further stated that they were simply arrested from where they found themselves, living in the same house with one of the suspects who was arrested. 

The other four suspects, Prince Osei, Nancy Dentah, Prince Kofi Acheampong and Kofi Sheshie submissions of no case was overruled.

They are therefore to open their defence and argue their case out.  The case has been adjourned to the 23rd of this month.
