New Board of Directors sworn into office -Trax Ghana - UER An eight member Board of Directors of Trax Program Support Trax Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization NGO has been sworn into office to help steer the affairs of the Organization. They were sworn in by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court Judge, Malcolm E. Bedzrah. Trax Ghana was established in 1989, with its headquarters in Bolgatanga, capital of the Upper East Region. Trax Ghana over the past twenty-nine 29 years, has been working to empower smallholder farmers in Northern Ghana in the areas of food security and nutrition, alternative livelihoods, commodity enterprise development, education, gender equity, community empowerment among others at the grassroots. The new Board of Directors include; the Regional Director, Environmental Protection Agency EPA who doubled as the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification UNCCD Focal Person to Ghana, Dr John Bosco, a Senior Lecturer and former Rector of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic, Dr Francis Kweku Amagloh, a Senior Lecturer of the University for Development Studies UDS and Mr. Luu Yin Senior Lecturer of the UDS. The rest are Mr. Zimi Al-Hassan, the Regional Extension Officer of the Department of Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Mr. Andrew Opong-Peprah, a Businessman, Mr. Emmanuel Abeliwine, Regional Director of the Northern Development Authority and Ms. Bride Mambisi Apania, an Assembly woman and a teacher. During the swearing-in ceremony at the Headquarters, of Trax Ghana in Bolgatanga, the Bolgatanga Circuit Court Judge advised the Board of Directors to remain loyal in the dispensation of their duties and collaborate with Trax Ghana management to ensure the success of the organization. The Director of TRAX Ghana, Mr. Subbey, indicated that his outfit over the years had contributed significantly to empower smallholder farmers in their respective communities in the field of alternative livelihoods, by supporting them with small ruminants, seeds, dry season vegetable production, soap making, and training of artisans among others. He stated that, in the area of value chain development, Trax Ghana promotion of Orange-fleshed Sweet Potato as food based approach to addressing vitamin A deficiency, increase food security, wealth creation and the promotion of Non-Timber Forest Products. Mr. Subbey added that they also support basic schools with boreholes, vegetable gardens, teaching and learning materials, and scholarships packages. He however, complained that, despite the success chalked up, funding was a challenge and appealed to the Board to work hard to ensure that the NGO attract funding to enable it continue with its good interventions. Dr. John Bosco who spoke on behalf of his colleagues thanked the Director and the Staff of Trax Ghana for reposing confident in them and pledged that the Board would work hard to ensure that the organization get funding to help improve upon food security in rural households in Northern Ghana .
