Deputy Trade Minister challenges MDCEs to host five factories by 2020

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Robert Ahomka-Lindsay has challenged MDCEs to make sure they host five (5) factories in their respective districts by 2020 though they are supposed to do one. 

He threw the challenge at the launch of District Implementation Support Teams (DISTs) at Wa in the Upper West Region when he made a presentation on the status of the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative. 

GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo and Mark Smith report that the event was attended by MDCEs, MDCDs, Traditional Authorities and other regional and district departmental heads. 

Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay tasked MDCEs to check whether the information provided by business promoters in relation to their areas of jurisdiction are correct. 

He charged statutory organizations and political heads to do what is expected of them for the success of the project. He observed that there was the need for us to change the very nature of our economy for the sake of young people. 

Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay touched on the necessity of land as a prerequisite for the full implementation of the One District, One Factory initiative.

The Deputy Upper West Regional Minister Amidu Chinnia Issahaku praised the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) for the good work done to ensure that all the necessary structures for the launch of the of District Implementation Support Teams had been put in place. 

Mr. Issahaku spoke about the reservation some people have about the One District, One Factory initiative. 

Mr. Issahaku was very hopeful that all parties will play the parts well for the Upper West Region to get what it deserves to better the lot of its citizens.
