Durbar on Agric census held in Wa Metropolis

As part of efforts to further sensitize the public and elicit their cooperation in the on-going agricultural census, a durbar has been held at Kpongu in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region. 

A team of officials from Information Services Department (ISD) and Statistical Service led by a Deputy Director responsible for Regional Coordination, ISD Accra, Isaac Dupey attended the event. 

In this piece, Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo says the durbar formed part of awareness creation exercise in respect of the 2018 agricultural census taking place across the country between 30th April and 31st July. 

Mr. Dupey observed that ISD in conjunction with others is working around the clock to sensitize the public with mobile vans on the need for them to fully participate in the agric census. 

He made a plea to the people saying “this is not politics, this is a census of agriculture and it is a good platform for our farmers to cooperate with enumerators for societal benefit.” 

The Upper West Regional Director of ISD, Issifu Bennin reiterated the need for information to be volunteered to help us “move forward with our agricultural activities. 

Mr. Bennin stated that in Upper West, more 90% of the people are into Agric and its related activities and explained the exercise to them. 

The Chief of Kpongu, Naa Seidu Braimah and the Assembly Member for the Area, Yakubu Salia were at the durbar. 

Naa Braimah said he was highly elated to host Mr. Dupey led team at the event and charged his people to work hand-in-hand with the enumerators to make the exercise a success. 

The Upper west Regional Statistician, Jeremiah Sixtus Dery entreated the Kpongu community to actively participate in the exercise and give accurate information on their agricultural activities to officials collecting the data to help shape policy.
