Women's World Banking to roll out five thousand agents The Chief Executive Officer of Womens’ World Banking (WWB), Charlotte Lily Baidoo has disclosed that the bank is to roll out about five thousand agents by the third quarter of this year as it seeks to expand its outreach poverty alleviation social service programmes. She said as part of the bank’s corporate agenda for the year, the bank is to operationalize Agency Banking, a mini-banking system in every district capital of the country with the application of android mobile phone technology in banking transactions and operations. In an interview to assess the impact of the bank in view of its unique position in the banking sector, she said the roll out would create employment for a sizeable number of people who will be paid handsome commissions based on the volume of work they carry out. Ms. Baidoo urged current and prospective clients of the bank to embrace the change for a better banking service as the bank goes digital in its operations. She encouraged all clients to have confidence and invest in the bank as it brings banking to the doorstep of the people particularly business women in various parts of the country. The foremost vision of the bank, she said is to empower through financing business women and men with micro loan services through its core social service and poverty reduction programmes. According to her, countless number of its clientele who started with the bank around its inception, were hitherto operating from table top, kiosk or other low-profile businesses but through the intervention of WWB, they now own large size profit-making ventures. In this direction, she said many women have received start-up capitals to set up businesses which have lifted them from dire financial doldrums. Ms. Baidoo urged women in particular to approach the bank for accessible and convenient transactions than to go to other banks because the bank had come to stay for their sake. He urged men not to hesitate to approach the bank for any business transactions because of the name it bears adding that the bank was open to both business men and women with some focus on women to a greater extent. Of the hundred thousand clientele base of the bank, 37 percent are men and 63 percent women, with 13 branches across the country. Ms. Baidoo urged government and other relevant stakeholders in education or civil society to help instill the culture of saving in our children through the educational curriculum or family nurturing geared towards mitigating the dependency syndrome and encouraging the spirit of self-reliance in members of society. The Head of Finance of the Bank, Mr. Patrick Acquah urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to support governments digitization agenda because it will go a long way to enhance credit accessibility and surety of recovery since the tracking of customers will be easier, thereby reducing default rate of non-performing loans.
