Parliament holds Conference on RTI  bill today

The Joint Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Communications of Parliament will this morning hold a stakeholders conference on the Right to Information Bill. 

The objective of the conference is to receive oral presentations from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), relevant public institutions and experts in respect of the bill.

It will also present the opportunity for all stakeholders to engage with the committee and vice versa.  

The conference will be held at the Justice D.F. Annan Auditorium of the Job 600 complex at Parliament House.

The Right to Information is a fundamental human right guaranteed by Ghana's 1992 Constitution and recognised as such under the International Convention on Human Rights. 

However the RTI bill, which arguably is the oldest before parliament has since not been passed. It was drafted under the auspices of the Institute of Economic Affairs 22 years ago.

There have been calls by the Ghana Journalists Association and other civil society organizations for its quick passage since it has been in parliament for long.
