Be “innovative and creative” to ensure quality of life of the people -Issahaku

The Acting Upper West Regional Minister, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku says members of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) must be “innovative and creative” to ensure that the quality of life of the people is improved. 

According to him their creativity will enable them to proffer what he termed quality solutions to the problems of the Region. 

Mr. Issahaku was addressing the Upper West RCC meeting in Wa aimed at discussion the socio-economic enhancement needs of the people of the Region. 

He reiterated the need for sacrifice and hard work to fast-forward the developmental agenda of the Region which is in keeping with President Akufo-Addo’s vision to develop Ghana beyond aid. 

Acoording to Radio Ghana’s correspondents Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo and Dennis Bebane, Mr. Issahaku observed that the idea of self-centeredness has eaten and continue to eat into the fibre of our national life. 

He said based on the President’s coordinating programmes of economic and Social Development Policies, the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has developed a Medium Term National Development Policy Framework (2018-2021) entitled “An Agenda for Jobs: Creating Prosperity and Equal Opportunity for All”. 

Mr. Issahaku continued that the policy framework and District Planning Guidelines has been finalist by the NDPC and RCC with copies forwarded to Municipal and District Assemblies. 

The Acting Upper West Regional Minister therefore charged the Assemblies to play a greater role to propel the Region forward march. 

The Upper West Regional Director of Agriculture, Emmanuel Sasu Yeboah said the Phase Two of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme will start this year with new policies to improve and sustain the programme. 

He pointed out that policies include issuance of coupons to farmers to access fertilizer and 50 percent subsidy on fertilizer by Government. 

Mr. Yeboah said the first phase of the programme has encountered a lot of challenges such as smuggling of fertilizer and farmers not willing to pay fully for the fertilizer after harvest, hence the new initiative. 

The Regional Director of Agriculture told the meeting that this year, farmers under the Planting for Food and Jobs will pay 68 Ghana Cedis for a bag of NPK fertilizer and 63 Ghana Cedis for a bag of Urea and are expected to register for not more than five acres. 

A presentation on the National Digital Property Addressing System was by a Coordinating Director of the System, Emmanuel Duodu. 

Mr. Duodu said the system will help to identify those who evade tax.
