Save a Street Child Foundation to mentor children to help curb streetism

Save a Street Child Foundation, a non-governmental organization in Ghana, has included mentorship to its line of activities to help curb the issue of streetism.

The initiative is targeted at single parents who have no sustainable source of income.

The main focus of the foundation’s mentorship initiative is to motivate single parents to work hard to cater for the welfare of their children in order to keep them off the streets.

During the foundation’s 2nd mentorship initiative series in Accra, about 150 single parents present shared painful experiences that had left them single and with no sustainable source of income.

World leaders have over the years come up with interventions to help deal with the problems of streetism. This phenomenon is worrying especially when related to drugs, disease, crime, or delinquency.

Many people say, this situation must be curbed to ensure that all children, whose right is to have an education, actually get into the classroom.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Ewurabena Quainoo called on government, stakeholders and the public to put a shoulder to the wheel and help in the fight against streetism.

The guest speaker, philanthropist and Broadcast Journalist Ms. Obuobia Darko-Opoku, encouraged all parents to be strong and get a vocation to help them support their families and also give meaning to their existence.  

Since its inception in 2016, the foundation has embarked on various projects that have helped reunite some street children with their families. 

They have also returned to school and with the hope of staying on the right path.
