Workers cry for better conditions of Service

Workers from organisations in the public sector May 1 converged on the premises of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC, to celebrate Workers Day. 

The celebration which was characterised by dancing, musical chairs and a lot of eating and drinking was organised by the GBC Accra Local Union. 

Chairman of GBC Divisional Workers Union, Micheal Allotey says he is not satisfied with what the government has done for workers so far but they would keep negotiating for better working conditions. 

Assistant Secretary of the GBC Accra Local Union, Christian Akoto said the purpose of the celebration is to honour the efforts of workers and to socialize. 

Some workers expressed their happiness for the celebration.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah has disclosed that government has created over one million jobs since it took over in January 2017. 

Attributing the feat to the various interventions put in place by President Akufo-Addo, Mr Baffour-Awuah said the jobs were mainly from the formal sector. 

He was speaking at the May Day celebration in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. Mr Baffour-Awuah did not give details on the jobs created but said he will make it available to the press later.
