Upper West Regional marks Workers Day with "Unique Toilet Campaign"

A couple, Amadu Yakubu and Mrs. Adiza Issahaku stole the show at the Upper West Regional version of the 2018 May Day with campaign on the importance for every house to own a toilet.

Emmanuel Mensah-Abludu reports from Wa that the couple carried a water closet pot and tank with the inscription, "One House, One Toilet,Workers Plea to Landlords." 

The excitement of the crowd was as a result of the "unique and funny" way they were embarking on the campaign for a place of convenience for every household. 

The Acting Upper West Regional Minister, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku entreated people of the Region to work extra hard to catch up with the rest of the country, since the Region is one of the poorest in the country. 

He told the gathering that "let us work together with a common understanding that this is our only homeland, and that it is only us who can change our fortunes for the better." 

Mr. Issahaku assured organized labour that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) is committed to work to further deepen cooperation with it for the benefit of all. 

The Upper West Regional Secretary of TUC, Brother George Kofi Mude who read the TUC  Secretary General's address pointed out of that the lack of employment is the greatest challenge facing Ghana today, saying even the few Ghanaians that are employed are constantly being threatened  with redundancy. 

Brother, Mude called on the government to ratify International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 158 concerning termination of employment and to also review the Labour Act, 2003, Act 651 to protect Ghanaian workers from employers who want to take advantage of the lapses in our labour law. 

Some deserving workers were honoured for their dedication to duty.
