Nurses, midwives trainees kick against employment under Nation Builders Corps

The Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association, is protesting against government's decision to employ Nurses and other health professionals under the Nation Builders Corps, NABCO. 

The Executive Board of the Association is urging its members not to patronise the policy and desist from applying for it online. 

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association, Akugri Gadafi told GBC’s Jonathan Thompson that the Association will stage a demonstration on the 7th of this month to register its rejection of NABCO.

He said salaries and conditions under the new policy is woefully inadequate to benefit health professionals and their contribution to nation building. 

BACKGROUND

President Akufo-Addo today (May 1), launched the Nation Builders Corps, NABCO an initiative by government to create one hundred thousand jobs for Graduates. 

NABCO which is a voluntary scheme will be under seven modules including ICT, Health, Education, Agriculture, and Governance. 

Speaking at the launch at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, President Akufo-Addo said the initiative will not end government's commitment to create jobs but will be accelerated through the implementation of the flagship programmes such as the one district one factory, one village one dam and the creation of a conducive Environment for the private sector to grow.

The first batch of 1,000 Graduate jobs is expected to be created by the 1st of July. Application which is now opened will close by the 1st of June. 

Beneficiaries will receive training and recruitment will be done at the Constituencies with stated allocation to ensure equitable representation. 

President Akufo-Addo said placement will last a period of three years and beneficiaries will receive allowance of 700 Ghana cedis every month.
