2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations launched

Graced by Ghana’s finest women of influence led by the Chief of Staff and special guest of honor, Frema Osei Opare, the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) was yesterday (March 23), launched at the Swiss Spirit Suites, Alisa Hotel in Accra, with a bold statement of "Proud of our own, we can do it!” as the theme for the competition.

It was indeed a powerful assembling of the key women who all accepted roles to ensure that the competition becomes a huge success.
Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, Minster of Communications, Ursular Owusu Ekufful, CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Council Gifty Klenam, Queenmother of Efutu and Krontihemaa of Oguaa Traditional Area, Nana Amba Eyiaba, First Lady of Liberia, Clar Weah, the CAF Ambassador of women’s football and Chairperson of the occasion and Acting General manager Administration and Human Resource SSNIT, Joyce Wereko-Ampem, chairperson of the LOC, MP Tano North and Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Freda Prempeh and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kofi Asiamah and host of others, Corporate Ghana, Black Queens and the Media

The Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare asked that Ghanaians should wipe up support for the tournament as host and the black queens to win it.

There were also solidarity message from the First Lady of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo-Addo who promised to support the Queens to host and win the competition.

Chairperson of the LOC, Freda Prempeh, said AWCON 2018, being the first of it’s kind in Ghana was exciting and was pleased that, the nations would compete in the spirit of friendship and unity on our soil.

The chairman of the launch Mrs Joyce Wereko-Ampem said it was refreshing to note that the tournament has presidential backing and support.

A memorable occasion in Ghana football, interim coach of Black Queens says it’s a host and win but cautioned, that adequate preparation should be made emphasising on international friendlies and support from Ghanaians.

Funds were raised in support of the 8 nation tournament, slated for 17th November to 1st December.
