Government okays recruitment of 1000 persons in Ghana Prisons Service

The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery says government has given approval for the recruitment of 1000 persons into the Ghana Prisons Service this year.

He said this is part of government's efforts to augment the staff strength of the Service. 

Mr. Dery added that government will also provide logistical support to upgrade the Prisons Officers training school to meet modern standards. 

He stated this at the graduation of Officers Cadet Course intake Twenty Four in Accra. 

Forty officers consisting of thirty one males and nine females graduated after successfully undergoing a rigorous nine-month training in the twenty fourth intake cadet officers course.

They were taken through drilling, martial arts, penal law, reception duties, financial accounting, correctional management among other lessons. 

The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery who was the Reviewing Officer of the graduating team advised the officers to maintain a high level of discipline, vigilance and commitment in discharging their duties.

He also entreated them to always respect the human rights and dignity of prisoners. He commended the security services for their inter-agency collaboration that led to the recapturing of some inmates who escaped from lawful custody. 

Awards and prizes were given to officers who excelled in various courses. The Sword of Honour went to Senior Under Officer Gbeddy Theresa Senam who was awarded the Academic Cane.
