Ethnic Groups in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District pledge support for creation of new regions

Ethnic Groups in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District have pledged support for the proposed creation of a new Region out of the current Northern Region to pave the way for rapid development.

They include Safalba, Brifo, Dagarti, Gonja Vagla and Wala. 

They pledged their support through their Community Chiefs and Youth Associations at the public hearing on the creation of the new Savannah Region.

The Groups believe a new Region will not only bring Governance closer to the people, but also improve on the road network in farming communities as well as Health delivery.
 
Tamale the Northern Regional Capital is a distance of 210 kilometres from Sawla the District Capital, and this affects smooth Administration of the area.

Majority of participants proposed Damango to be Capital of the new Region. 

Their reasons are that Damongo is the seat of the Traditional Council of the Gonja Traditional area and has many Infrastructures that could be used.

The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Stephen Alan Brobbey commended the people of Sawla Tuna Kalba District for attending the forum. 

He said their contributions and comments will be delivered to the President. 

Justice Brobbey said their requests are part of their constitutional right and called on the people to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the process.
