Government to deploy 8700 CCTV cameras to enhance police work

President Akufo-Addo says government will mobilise the needed assistance to enable the Police to provide Ghanaians the kind of service they deserve. This will strengthen the Police, fashioning it into an honest, disciplined, efficient and robust force, with emphasis on proactive and preventive policing, rather than reactive. 

In view of this, government is undertaking the rehabilitation of police stations across the country to a standardise infrastructure. President Akufo-Addo made this known when he inaugurated a police station at Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, built by the MP for the area, Joe Osei Wusu. 

He said in addition to recruiting some four thousand more police officers this year, negotiations have just been completed for the roll out of Phase Two of the Alpha Project, which involves the deployment of a total of eight thousand seven hundred CCTV cameras across all the districts, with three Command centres in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. Also, One thousand new vehicles are being procured for the police this year. 

Already two hundred pick-up vehicles have been allocated under Operation Calm Life, with two hundred saloon vehicles to be delivered soon. President Akufo-Addo urged the police to pay particular attention to the proper maintenance of the new equipment and facilities.
