Six new District and Municipal Assemblies to be inaugurated in Eastern Region Six new assemblies, made up of two municipalities and four districts are to be inaugurated in the Eastern Region tomorrow. This will bring to 32, the number of Districts and Municipalities in the Region while the constituencies remain 33. The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, disclosed this to GBC’s Radio Ghana in Koforidua. He said the six new assemblies to be inaugurated include Okere, Atiwa East, Asene-Manso and Fanteakwa South Districts. After the inauguration, the Region will be made up of 13 Municipalities-including three new ones, Abuakwa North, New Juaben North and Kwaebibrim while the remaining 19, will be District Assemblies. Mr Darfour said the creation of the new districts was fraught with challenges especially with the citing of capitals, but these have been settled amicably. He advised the people to bury their differences for the exercise to go on smoothly. At the time of filing the story, workers were busily putting finishing touches to the office for the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly at Effiduase near Koforidua, in the Eastern Region.
