300 teachers detained in Cameroon over pay protest

Three hundred teachers have been detained in Cameroon over the last two days after protesting about their pay and conditions. 

They were arrested after demonstrating outside the Prime Minister's office on Tuesday, with many complaining that they had not been paid their salaries for fourteen months. 

Reports say they were also protesting the lack of regard for their status as teachers, a grievance dating back 20 years. 

The government had earlier said it would resolve their pay complaints.
