Private Legal Practitioner warns of possible Constitutional crisis with frequency in swearing in of Speaker as Acting President

A Private Legal Practitioner Prof. Eugene Mensah, says there could be a constitutional crisis if the current provision of swearing in the Speaker as President when the President and his Vice are not in is not checked. 

He said an unscrupulous acting President can take advantage of Constitutional provisions and declare a state of emergency for instance. Speaking on  our Our Current Affairs Program, ''FOCUS" Prof. Mensah said the Supreme Court  now has a fine opportunity to take a second look at its earlier decision.

MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga said the Minority wants the Supreme Court's interpretation on whether being out of one's jurisdiction means one is  unable to perform the functions of office. 

He was however quick to add that the outcome of the Minority's case to the Supreme Court will depend largely on the composition of Judges. Governance Expert Prof. Emmanuel Osei Asiamah, noted that the current provision is outmoded and called for modernity in the governance structure.
