GBC’s Rebecca Awuah wins IFEJ Award

GBC's Rebecca Awuah, host of the reporter's round table has been honoured in the Best in Business Tourism category at the 4th IFEJ Flamingo awards in Accra, where Felix Dela Klutse  of Business Day was adjudged the overall best journalist in Business and Financial reporting. 

Speaking at the ceremony the first Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Maxwell Opoku Afari said the Bank of Ghana will be rolling out measures to curb the growing challenges in financial inclusion and fraud in the sector this year. 

These include reviewing the licensing regime of all financial institution in the country. He said a 24 hour monitoring system known as the Cyber Incident Event Monitoring system will be established.

DR Opoku Afari added that financial inclusion in the country is expanding, leading to the creation of jobs.

Statistics from the Center for Media Analysis indicates that more than 80 per cent of content in financial newspapers and reportage in general lack accurate, well researched information and relevant analysis for public consumption. 

To borrow words from president of IFEJ, Rayborn Bulley, "Out of 700 stories on business, economics and finance before the awards in 2014, only 3 were analytical'. 

It is based on this and other of such phenomena that Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists IFEJ launched the Flamingo award for Business and Financial Journalism to recorgnise players in the sector who provide high quality coverage of business and financial issues in the country.
