Planting for Food and Jobs: Gov't to distribute more seedlings to farmers

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture says it intends to triple the quantity of seed distribution to farmers this year under its flagship policy of Planting for Food and Jobs. 

At a dialogue with the Israeli Ambassador in Accra on Agriculture Technology, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto assured farmers of an improvement from the four thousand metric tonnes of seed distribution last year (2017). 

Dr Afriyie Akoto reiterated government's resolve to grow the seed industry and enhance the use of technology in the Agricultural sector. 

The Ghana-Israel Agricultural Technology Dialogue is a precursor to the 20th International Agricultural Exhibition and Conference, AgriTech 2018 to be held in Tel Aviv.

This year's exhibition focuses on challenges faced in the light of global warming, climate change, water security and others contributing to increased desertification. 

Mechanised Agriculture was at the center of discussions.

The Sector Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto said more than 40 thousand metric tons of vegetables was produced under the Planting For Food And Jobs Policy.

The Isreali Ambassador to Ghana, Ami Mehl analysed advantages and disadvantages of both countries in terms of growth in the sector.
