Roy Bennett 'suffered a lot in his attempt to build a new Zimbabwe' says Nelson Chamisa

The Deputy President of Zimbabwe's main opposition party Movement for Democratic Change, Nelson Chamisa, has described the death of Zimbabwean opposition politician, Roy Bennet in a helicopter crash as a big loss to the country's democratic struggle.

Mr. Chamisa said Mr. Bennet's death is a huge blow to democracy, as the country is on the brink of ushering in a new dispensation that he, Mr. Bennett had suffered greatly to achieve. 

Mr. Bennett and his wife were among five people who were killed in a helicopter crash in a mountainous rural area of northern Mexico.

Mr. Bennett was one of the few prominent white politicians in Zimbabwe.

He was an MP for the Chimanimani district in eastern Zimbabwe, and also served as the MDC's treasurer.

He was set to become the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Zimbabwe until President Robert Mugabe refused to swear him in.

He went into exile in South Africa nearly 10 years ago.
