Ghana to capitalise on extension of AGOA to develop vibrant Industrial Sector Ghana is to take advantage of the extension of the African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA) to develop a vibrant, Technological driven, liberalised and competitive trade and Industrial sector. The AGOA strategy is part of collaboration between the United States and some African countries including Ghana to ensure sustainable trade and industrial environment. The team leader of the Ghana International Trade Commission at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Lawrence Osei Boateng, said this at a stakeholder discussion on the Textiles and Garment Sector in Ghana. The forum was organised by the Ghana Standards Authority in Accra. Mr. Osei Boateng said the Ghana Strategy on AGOA has been extended for another ten years and will end in 2025. In this regard the Ministry of Trade and Industry has initiated some interventions which will aid in ensuring a vibrant textiles and garment sector. These include the setting up of a piracy task force and vetting Committee on Textile. The Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority, Professor Alex Dodoo, announced the setting up of hubs for the textiles industry which will serve as enquiry points for operators. Participants in the forum urged the Ghana Standards Authority to ensure that all materials used in the textiles and garments industry conform to standards.
