Grace Mugabe's 'fake' degree: University students want vice chancellor to step down

Students of the University of Zimbabwe have reportedly given the Vice Chancellor Levi Nyagura, 48 hours to step down over an alleged fake degree awarded to former first lady Grace Mugabe. 

In a letter delivered to the University, the Zimbabwe National Students' Union, Zinasu, threatened intensified protests to force the Vice Chancellor to step down if calls are not heeded to.

The Vice Chancellor, Levi Nyagura, is accused of presiding over the award of a dubious doctorate to Grace Mugabe. 

This comes a few weeks after academics at the University petitioned the country's Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the suspicious way in which Grace Mugabe was awarded a PhD in Orphanages four years ago.

The academics from the University's Sociology department said they were shocked when Mrs Mugabe, emerged among the doctoral candidates in 2014.

According to the students, the continued stay of the Vice Chancellor at the helm of the institution further degrades its already tainted image in the academic field.
